ECAS operates as a service provider and aims to assist talented athletes as they strive to compete at an elite level. For many talented athletes the greatest barrier to their continued participation is a lack of resources. ECAS is cognizant of these barriers which threaten the development of talent within the South African sporting environ. ECAS thus prioritizes the careful selection and provision of the widest-possible range of sport mechanisms that may be offered to athletes who demonstrate potential. From fostering partnerships with national sport federations to create opportunities to subsidising the cost of equipment and travel, ECAS makes certain that the only thing that the athlete has to worry about are the other competitors of race day! Where additional support is required before big events and competitions, ECAS recruits the assistance of its various service providers so that the team is adequately prepared. Notable visitors to the ECAS High Performance Unit in Port Elizabeth have included the national South African women’s rugby side, Premier soccer league side Bay United, the 2006 South African Junior Surfing squad as well as the Kenyan men’s rugby squad. The growing use of ECAS’ services by both national and international teams highlights the professional manner in which ECAS caters for athlete needs and the consistent support that ECAS has shown for athlete development.
