Zukelwa, Dumi, Zanele and Mampho make COSANA netball squad

Following their performances at the Spar National Netball Championships, Zukelwa Cwaba, Dumisani Chauke, Zanele Mdodana and Mampho Tsotetsi have been selected for Netball South Africa's COSANA Games squad. 35 players have been selected for the squad and the COSANA Games will be played in Durban (18-24 September 2009).

zukelwacwabaAlthough her side failed to make the Super Six stage of the competition, Zukelwa Cwaba (left) had a starring role for Amathole at the Spar championships. Amathole even managed to upset teams such as Gauteng Vaal. Zukelwa's versatility could see her being selected for the final SA team. Her 1.87m frame and good ball skills make her a utility player who is useful in the any position within the circle - whether attacking or defending.

Dumisani Chauke ended the Spar championships with the "Best Shooter" title and her accuracy secured the title for Nelson Mandela Bay "A". She managed to get into good positions and was very consistent in front of goal.  Dumi will have to be on her best game to make the final SA team as Protease Mary Ngwenya, Tsakane Mbewe will want to remind the selectors of their abilities.

The way that Zanele Mdodana and Mampho Tsotetsi controlled the centre court for Nelson Mandela Bay at the Spar Championships has led to their selection for the national squad. This is the second national selection for Mampho within 2 months after she made the national university side after the USSA Championships last month.  Nelson Mandela Bay's tactical use of an ill Zanele Mdodana played an important role in their tournament victory. Zanele has now recovered and will definitely be a contender for the Wing Attack position in the national set-up.

The COSANA Games will be played in Durban and will feature both Protea and South Africa "A" fixtures.
