The staff and athletes of the Eastern Cape Academy of Sport welcome Gap Sports athletes Tim Plail, Johan Knapp and Dave Gairn to South Africa and ECAS. They will be spending the next 6 weeks at ECAS and undergo an intensive  sport-specific programme designed to assist their development. Tim, Johan and Dave join a long line of young athletes  from the United Kingdom who have benefitted from ECAS' sport science expertise - all under the African sun!

The third edition of the FIFA/CIES/NMMU Certificate in Sport Management commences in September 2009. Several personnel among ECAS' partners and staff have previously enrolled for this programme which is offered by the NMMU Human Movement Science and Sport Management Department. All suitably qualified sport administrators are encouraged to apply for this programme which seeks to develop the management skills of the participants.

The 2009-2010 represents the start of the individual athlete support programmes initiated by the Eastern Cape Academy of Sport. This approach will ECAS concentrating mainly on the development of elite athletes. Athletes in diverse sport codes will receive scientific and material support to improve of their world-standard performances.

With the ECAS programmes running from March to March, the selection of the 2009-2010 ECAS athletes will be finalised soon and the final list of selected athletes will be posted on this website - complete with new profiles and achievements.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Dumisani Chauke, the latest addition to the staff at the ECAS Port Elizabeth satellite. Dumi will be our Office Assistant and replaces Zanele Mdodana who has left to take up a position at the NMMU Sport Bureau.
